The Kodak company – a manufacturer of photographic materials, equipment, consumables and software for offset, digital and functional printing – has reported the successful testing of the KODAKOne blockchain platform for image rights management. Since October 2018, when the KODAKOne blockchain platform began beta testing, it has processed 1667 applications and identified cases of copyright infringement on photographs amounting to $1 million. The beta version of the platform is used by agencies such as Blaublut Edition and Food Centrale, as well as by numerous photographers and international partners preparing for the next stage of deployment. "In today's unregulated media space, photographers cannot control the use of their assets. We are glad that the platform is working and helping content creators earn income. This is only the beginning of KODAKOne's exciting future, which will enrich the blockchain industry," said Jan Denecke, CEO of the company RYDE, which is the creator and operator of KODAKOne.
The KODAKOne platform uses an AI-powered web crawler and image recognition technology in order to provide photographers and rights holders with reliable real-time tracking of image use. KODAKOne protects the rights of image creators and registers them using smart contracts on the blockchain. According to the developers, distributed ledger technology will expand efforts to prevent the infringement of many types of digital assets in the future. "The blockchain will store relevant information tied to the image at registration. Records on the blockchain are protected from unauthorized access and provide indisputable claims to ownership. All intellectual property, such as identity, rights and brands, may be placed on the platform in the near future," said a representative of the Kodak company.
