An advisor (also adviser, advisor) is a counselor or consultant for a crypto project. Usually this role is filled by a recognized professional in the field of blockchain, IT, finance or law, whose experience and reputation help the team make well-grounded decisions. The figure of the advisor became especially prominent in the ICO era, when the presence of reputable consultants was viewed as one of the signs of a project's seriousness.
An advisor's tasks can vary: some help with the technical architecture, others with strategy, marketing, legal matters or building connections within the industry. The name of a well-known advisor often adds recognizability and trust to a project from the community and potential participants.
At the same time, the role of an advisor should be treated critically. The presence of high-profile names in the list of advisors does not in itself guarantee the quality or success of a project: sometimes participation amounts to a formal mention. When evaluating a project, it is reasonable to check how genuinely the advisor is involved, what their specialization is and whether their expertise is confirmed by a public reputation.
